This albums is comprised of two diverse string quartets composed by Jay Cloidt and performed by Cypress String Quartet.

"eleven windows" was originally commissioned by Kronos Quartet; it is a piece for quartet with electronics and recorded media, featuring 11 short movements with found-sound elements recorded by the composer around the world.

"Spectral Evidence" is a string quartet based on a deconstruction of Mozart's String Quartet No.14 in G, K.387. The first two minutes of the original piece are stated, then gradually broken down and 10 new movements are constructed from the melodic and rhythmic elements of that material.

Both pieces were the basis for dance performances choreographed by Brenda Way for modern dance ompany ODC/Dance in San Francisco. (Note: the dance using "eleven windows" was retitled "Raking Light" for the dance performances).
